This program is perfect for those who have already practiced for several years or have completed their 200-hour yoga teacher training and are looking to take the next step in their teaching journey. Program Requirements:
Students must upload their RYT 200-hour or 300 hour certificate to show they are qualified for this 500-hour advanced training. You will go deeper in advanced Vinyasa, Ashtanga intermediate series, yoga history, philosophy, mudras, learn how to facilitate sound healing, and cacao ceremonies, how to facilitate Usui Reiki healing sessions, and learn advanced pranayama. Enjoy breathwork journeys and sound healing journeys in this program.

The Accommodations

Bend it Like Buddha has two options of hotel or apartment-style rooms. The first one is standard 1 or 2 bedrooms near the yoga studio with shared kitchen, bathroom, and shower. Meanwhile, the second option is a 5-star hotel city view or ocean front room for an additional fee. Both options are within 7 minute walk to the yoga studio and maginificent praia da rocha with Wi-Fi and air-con.

Bend it like Buddha Yoga Syllabus RYT 300 Advanced Yoga Asana-Techniques, Training, Method

Acquire deeper knowledge in asana by learning second series, Intermediate Ashtanga Level 2 and reviewing primary series Level 1 in Ashtanga Vinyasa. Brush up Asana Sanskrit knowledge in all the asanas in primary series and intermediate series. Advanced Asana such as arm balances, backbends and Inversions. Applied practice in how to adjust and teach advance and primary series poses in Ashtanga. The most extensive part of the course, here you will learn in greater detail each of the 75 basic yoga poses, including alignment principles, energetic actions, subtle energetic body, risks, benefits, preparatory asanas, counterposes, variations, modifications, hands-on adjustments, and use of props, modifications and variations for each posture. This part of the course covers the major families of asanas: Sun Salutations, Standing Poses, Backbends, Forward Bends, Twists, Arm Balances, Inversions, Core Refinement, Hip Openers with advanced postures such as Kurmasana. 50 hours with Instructor

Applied Teaching Practice

At least five hours will be assigned to students to be lead teachers of the class for Teaching Practice modules. Starting on day one the students are learning advanced teaching skills and will be applying their skills daily in teaching practice class daily. This includes how to teach intermediate meditations, how to teach the advance 6 advanced Pranayamas based from Krishnamacharya and BNS Iyengar in Mysore, India, teaching a set or Vinyasa flow of the advanced postures in the intermediate series of Ashtanga or teaching a meditation, sound healing or facilitating cacao kirtan mantras circle. Here we focus on when, where, and how to most effectively demonstrate yoga poses while giving the clearest, most understandable verbal and hands-on guidance to students. Qualities of voice, including language, tone, word choice and audibility, are given close attention. This may be done as a collective “Think Tank” or brainstorming, pair work or small group teaching practice, by referring to the prior lessons and lectures. During teaching practice students will practice how to adjust or assist students and learn to verbalize cuing for safe movement through intermediate and primary series of Ashtanga Vinyasa.

Advanced  Anatomy

Refined understanding of functional anatomy, bio-mechanics, alignment maps and the kinesiology of movement as applied to seeing students in the practice and guiding them in a meaningful, safe, and effective way. Learn about the myofascia tissue, connective tissues, muscle system, joints and ligaments. Understanding the neuromuscular system such as the pain receptors and Golgi tendon response. Reviewing common injuries, sports injuries, dance injuries and how to prevent them by understanding for instance; the knee joint to this respect. Learning the hip joint and each posture Bio Mechanics for each traditional category (forward folds, twists, inversions, balance etc.) Analyzing the Psoas, Pelvis, and Sacroiliac Joint. Furthermore, trying out the exercises and asana we can do to stretch and strengthen each posture. Anatomy and Bio Mechanics of Energetics: Breath and Bandha and the Spine. Understanding the Shoulder Girdle and learning the poses to stretch and strengthen the muscles at the shoulder. For example, what asana can you give your students with rotator cuff injuries (head stand or dolphin which help to strengthen the muscles around the rotator cuff which often reduces pain). This course covers the anatomy and poses or exercises to stretch and strengthen The Hand, Wrist and The Foot and Ankle ect. Focus will be on how to prevent injuries, what to look for in student’s alignment to prevent injuries, how to cue and adjust safely to keep our students safe yet at the same progressing in their practice.

The Anatomy modules will be taught once a day and sometimes 2 times a day in the applied teaching practice modules, sports injuries and alignment classes. Anatomy lectures and discussions done from Keys to Hatha, our own anatomy materials and completing essay questions which focuses on Yoga anatomy and safety to prevent injuries. Yoga Lifestyle and Ethics as a yoga student and yoga teacher How to Apply 8 Limbs into daily Life, The 6 schools of Indian philosophy, 8 Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga-Patanjali Sutras and slokas in the light of applied daily practice and yogic lifestyle, Philosophy from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Krishnamacharya and contemporary yoga, Yoga origins, history, Philosophy from the Upanishads and Vedas

Techniques, Training: Subtle Energetic Systems: Exploration of the major body systems in relationship to asana practice – in particular the nervous system, the lymphatic system and the endocrine system. The effect of endocrine glands on our psyche.

The Nervous system (with emphasis on understanding the autonomous nervous system – consisting of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system). We will look at the interrelatedness of the spine with the inner organs via the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve fibers and how asanas improve the functioning of the inner organs directly and indirectly (via the spine).

The Lymphatic system and lymphatic drainage techniques

Applied anatomy related to the subtle-energetic body and similar aspects of yoga.

Anatomy and Physiology are important aspects of yoga study, but another relatively unexplored aspect of yoga is Bio-Psychology and BilB will cover these topics. Bio-Psychology is the study of glands and hormones and their profound effects on all physical and mental (psychic) functions like growth, digestion, energy levels, emotions, etc. Chakra balancing techniques (using asana in chakra work) – we will look at each chakra and their related propensities and explore techniques to regain physical and emotional/mental balance

Practicum

There will be 3 practicums or final demos for students to share throughout the training: 1.) How to teach and approach the practice with clients who have certain injuries or interests in a 60 minute Vinyasa class. For example, a class for injured dancers, yoga for rock climbers or, how to maintain healthy joints and joint mobility.2.) How to teach a 30 minute private yoga class or Gentle Vinyasa fusion class with: something learned in the program such as mantras, crystals, sound healing, cacao ceremony, The 5 elements, Ayurvedic theory, The Doshas,  ect… 3.) Teach a demo class in Ashtanga Vinyasa-primary series or from the Ashtanga Intermediate series that we have covered in the program. Students and lead teachers will be giving practical feedback to each of the students after each practicum

Techniques, Training, Practice

Pranayama Practices: Students will learn and be teaching 6 advanced Pranayama, other breathing techniques , Breath Work journey and meditation: Pranayama is the medium into meditation /Dhyana. Basic and intermediate pranayama techniques, including how, when, and whom to teach basic yoga breathing (uijayi) and more intermediate pranayama techniques (including shakti chalana, bastrika).

Advanced Pranayama

Learn and practice the advanced 6 Pranayamas that BNS Iyengar teaches in Mysore as taught by his teacher Krishnamacharya, the father of modern yoga . Learn the benefits and nuances of all 6 advanced Pranayamas to eventually, safely and gradually take 40 count kumbaka. Practice daily and apply by teaching classmates. Understand and know the contraindications.

Techniques, Training, Practice

Meditation Practices: In demystifying meditation, we explore how to bring meditation into yoga classes and everyday life in way that is simple, accessible, and sustainable. We explore several meditation techniques and how bring meditation into our classes and teach customized meditation classes. Trainees will be learning and teaching a variety of advanced meditations such as mindfulness techniques and yoga nidra.

Teaching Sequencing

Advanced Class Planning & Sequencing: The art and science of sequencing families (traditional categories) of asanas and crafting entire classes, including for different levels of students, different intentions, seasons, styles and other considerations. Trainees will also be learning how to theme classes according to body part, virtue or chakra for example. Here we also cover pacing, duration, tempo, and vibe for different levels and intentions of classes. How to sequence a Vinyasa class. How to choose a peak pose and warm up and cool down and counter poses appropriately for the students.

Business Yoga

Business aspects of teaching yoga; including marketing, legal, insurance, branding yourself as a teacher and school, using social media and the importance in writing a business plan. Business Yoga will be covered throughout the course discussing studio and teacher branding, what classes to offer the community depending on audience (beginners or advance for instance). Profession & Business of Yoga: This covers the role of the teacher, getting yourself established as a professional yoga teacher, and being successful in teaching yoga as your source of livelihood. Also, discussions on limits and boundaries to know when to refer professionals such as psychologists and medical doctors.

11 hour, includes post graduation Implementation Labs to take massive action in workshop to get students website done, copy, graphics, video scripts, video content done, working on your next yoga challenge, yoga workshops and yoga events, retreats completed. In the lab your field of favour, yoga micro niche and student avatar is dialed into your content creations.

Ethics and Lifestyle

How we live our lives off the mat in a contemporary consumer world. Including environment-sustainability, personal yoga practice, nutrition, sleep, work-life balance, relations with family and friends, and giving back to the community are essential aspects of deepening our yoga practice and sharing it with dignity and integrity to others. Continue the exploration of the 8 limbs of yoga and how to apply these on the mat and off of the mat.

Techniques, Training, Practice

Ayurveda:  Students learn that Ayurveda treatment starts with an internal purification process, followed by a special diet, herbal remedies, yoga, and meditation. The concepts of universal interconnectedness, the body’s constitution (prakriti), and life forces (doshas) are the primary basis of ayurvedic medicine .

Sacred Sound Cacao ceremony: Students learn how to facilitate a Sound Healing journey and Kirtan Cacao ceremony with mantras. Students learn that sacred sounds in Yogic texts, Sanskrit and lineage. The utterance of particular sounds is thought by many cultures to form a connection to all the elements of the universe. In some belief systems music and sound vibrations are pathways for healing body, mind, and spirit. For example, learning about the most sacred sound being the sound of AUM. ( Om)

Acro yoga: Students learn about Acro Yoga as a dynamically developing yoga form of physical activity and healthy emotional release. It is a kind of combination of yoga and acrobatics. It contributes to propagating physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among people at various ages all over the world. There are three main roles in Acro Yoga: “Base”, “Flyer” and “Spotter” 20 hours

The Food

During the retreat, participants will enjoy delicious, organic, vegetarian meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Snacks and drinks are also included, such as energizing juices and herbal detox teas. For an extra fee, participants can also order snacks, vitamin and health-booster juices, smoothies, homemade vegan bakery treats, coffee, and fresh local fruit.

Other Activities

As an optional add-on, participants can also enjoy kayaking and grotto tours, paddle boarding, spa and aqua circuit, beach Thai massage, Algarve town hopping, 5-star hotel spas, and luxurious candlelight aqua spa with Turkish bath, cold plunge pools, saunas, water jets, and spa treatments.
