The Journey Metamorphosis: Yoga Teacher Fundamentals

Yoga is a powerful practice that unites and harmonizes the relationship of the mind, body and soul.

As featured on:

This book describes everything about my personal yoga journey, the essence about this transformative practice and how to teach yoga to others.”

This book, The Journey…Metamorphosis, is an extensive compilation of what I have learned and experienced during the nine years of leading teacher training programs, my home practice and studies in Mysore, India with the last living legend of Ashtanga, BNS Iyengar, the student of Master Krishnamacharya, known as the Father of Modern Yoga, also teacher of the great Pattabhi Jois.

My intention is to provide an experiential, comprehensive manual of teaching yoga for beginner students, those who are especially preparing for the 200 hour yoga teacher training course, or those who want to go deeper for self-exploration. However, all yogis can learn from this book as there are many misconceptions to what yoga, meditation and pranayama are. My hope is that all of these misconceptions can be dispelled in this book. The majority of the material in this book are the gems of what has been passed down to us from great masters such as BNS Iyengar and the faculty at the legendary school Krishnamacharya Shala in Mysore, India.

This is a reference book for both yoga teachers who want to grow in their yoga practice into a training facility and yoga students with a desire to start teaching yoga. In this practical yet comprehensive yoga training manual, you will learn fundamentals needed to teach yoga. This manual demonstrates the methodology of teaching yoga, physical and subtle energetic anatomy, and the philosophy of yoga. There is practical instruction for over 60 asanas in common English and Sanskrit names with the effective techniques, anatomical muscles being used in the pose, modifications, contraindications, teaching tips, and subtle energetic and physical benefits of each.

If you want a practice which is in harmony with your body, mind and spirit you must breathe properly while practising the correct alignment, as the support and strength of your asana is essential for a balanced practice. It is strongly advised throughout this book, as was mentioned in the Patanjali Sutras, the foremost yogic text birthed thousands of years ago, that one must practise not only postures but also meditation, pranayama and breathwork to properly attain harmony of the mind, body and soul. It is also imperative to apply the Eight Limbs of Yoga into daily life to attain enlightenment,  which is described inside this book.

This 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Guide by L. Farrah Furtado was developed to prepare students to teach yoga locally and internationally. This in-depth book will help you discover the compassionate, sincere, confident and skilled teacher within you!
Farrah Furtado’s two yoga schools, Bend it like Buddha Yoga in Portugal and Kaohsiung Yoga in Taiwan, have reached world-wide popularity for not only their yoga retreats but also their 200 and 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training. Furtado’s hope for this book is that the material which she continuously improves upon from training to training makes it more accessible to aspiring yoga teachers and their students who might not have the opportunity to register for training in India, Portugal or Bali, where some of the best yoga schools are. This guide focuses on the Ashtanga and Vinyasa system, both very popular in western studios. The content in this Yoga Teacher Training Guide has been used by hundreds of Furtado’s students who have been taking her teacher training courses internationally since 2014.

This book has also inspired the birth of the Bend it like Buddha online school, which has an essential focus on the subtle energetic anahata chakra and heart-opening practices, and teaches the Eight Limbs of Ashtanga, which supports the practice of heart-centered living. We continuously strive to create and share heart opening meditations and practices for students to continue to deepen their yoga practice and lead more meaningful, joyful, peaceful, loving and abundant lives.
